VELFAC Aluminium Clad Timber Windows
Woodstock Windows is now an approved VELFAC supplier and installer for North Devon. VELFAC aluminium clad timber windows and doors are made to measure in Denmark, with slim frames, triple glazing and U values as low as 0.8 W/m²K. We survey, supply and fit them ourselves, from our showroom at Mullacott Cross near Ilfracombe.
If you are building a new home, extending, or giving an older property the windows it deserves, you have probably found the same trade off we hear about every week. Timber looks and feels lovely but needs looking after, especially on the coast. Aluminium is slim and tough but can feel cold and a bit clinical indoors.
VELFAC gives you both. Pine on the inside, so your rooms feel warm and natural. Powder coated aluminium on the outside, so wind, rain and salt air are kept well away from the wood. It is a combination architects have been specifying for decades, and now you can get it from a local, family run team that has been fitting windows across North Devon since 1986.
Why we chose VELFAC
We do not add a range to our showroom lightly. We picked VELFAC because it does things our other ranges cannot:
- Slim, contemporary sightlines: The VELFAC 200 frame is just 54mm, and the opening and fixed windows look exactly the same. Large screens of glass line up neatly, with up to 15% more daylight than chunkier frames.
- Excellent thermal performance: Triple glazing and an insulating timber core give U values as low as 0.8 W/m²K, meeting and beating current Building Regulations for new builds and renovations alike.
- Timber inside, aluminium outside: Natural FSC® certified pine on the inside, tough aluminium on the outside that never needs painting.
- Made to measure: No stock sizes. Every window and door is made to your exact openings, shapes, colours and opening styles, including corner glazing, triangles and floor to ceiling panes.
- Built for weather: VELFAC 200 is tested to wind resistance Class C4, equal to 114mph gusts. Handy when the wind comes straight off the Bristol Channel.
- Secure: PAS 24 and Part Q compliant, with Secured by Design approved options and glass that cannot be removed from outside.
- Quiet: Sound reduction up to Rw 46dB, depending on the range.
- Long life, low fuss: An expected lifespan of 40 years or more. Clean regularly and oil the timber once a year, and that is about it.
- Your colours: 28 standard RAL colours at no extra cost, in matt or gloss, with a different colour inside and out if you like.
- Covered by warranty: Every VELFAC window and door is covered by a manufacturer’s product warranty, with spare parts available for years to come.

VELFAC windows: your questions answered
What are aluminium clad timber windows? They are windows with a timber frame on the inside and a powder coated aluminium shell on the outside. You get the warmth and insulation of wood indoors, and the toughness and low maintenance of aluminium where the weather hits.
Are VELFAC windows worth the money? VELFAC sits at the premium end of the market, so they cost more than uPVC. In return you get slim frames, triple glazing, an expected lifespan of 40 years or more, and every product is covered by warranty. For a self build, a high spec renovation or a home you plan to stay in, many people find that pays off. We will always give you an honest comparison with our other ranges.
How much do VELFAC windows cost? Every VELFAC window is made to measure, so price depends on size, range, glass and colour. Send us your plans or book a free survey and we will give you a clear, itemised quote.
Are VELFAC windows suitable for coastal homes in North Devon? Yes. The aluminium outer shell protects the timber from wind, rain and salt air, and VELFAC 200 is tested to wind resistance Class C4, equal to 114mph gusts. We will advise on the right range and glass for exposed spots.
Can VELFAC windows be used in a period or listed property? VELFAC Classic and Ribo are designed for heritage and traditional homes, with glazing bars and a choice of timber only frames. For listed buildings or conservation areas, check with your local planning team first; we are happy to help with product information for your application.
Do you supply VELFAC windows to architects and builders? Yes. We offer supply only or supply and fit for architects, developers and builders across North Devon, and can work from your drawings and specifications.
Are you an approved VELFAC installer? Yes. Woodstock Windows is an approved VELFAC supplier and installer for North Devon, so you get VELFAC’s products and warranty with a local team to survey, fit and look after them.
What happened to Rationel windows? Rationel windows and doors are now part of the VELFAC range, sold as VELFAC Ribo and VELFAC Classic. We supply both.
How do I look after VELFAC windows? Keep them clean and oil the internal timber once a year. The aluminium outside never needs painting.
